The Cfir Castle itinerary is a moderate, half-day cultural and natural route of about 11.7 kilometres. It runs from the town of Ballsh to the hilltop fortress of Cfir in Mallakastër, southern Albania, passing through Panahor.
The route climbs gradually from 159 metres to a maximum of 641 metres. It follows asphalt roads for most of the way, then turns onto a gravel section that leads to the village of Cfir. The final approach to the castle is unpaved and best made on foot or with a suitable off-road vehicle.
Along the way, visitors encounter three points of interest that span nature and history: the early Christian Basilica of Saint Mary at the entrance to Ballsh, the ancient oaks of Kalenjë near Panahor, and the fortified settlement of Cfir Castle. The route is at its best in spring and autumn, and rewards travellers with panoramic hilltop views, oak and hornbeam woodlands, natural springs and a growing local tourism offer anchored by Guest House Velaj, making it an accessible and compelling destination for cultural, historical, and nature-based exploration in the Mallakastra region.

The route, step by step
- Ballsh — start at the Early Christian Basilica and Church of Saint Mary
